The Gilles Plains Lion's Club

I am a member of the Gilles Plains Lions Club. We are a small group, but I believe we make up for that with our community spirit and hard work. We receive no government grants, and what we are able to donate to the local charities, is through the generousity of the community, and the hard work of the Lions and Lions Ladies.
We support and make donations to such organisations as the Red Cross, Anti Cancer Foundation, Heart Foundation, Blind Welfare, Salvation Army, Crippled Childrens Association, Royal Flying Doctor Service, local schools and many other such worthy charities and foundations. In the year 96/97 we were able to donate about $A9,000 to these organisations. Our projects include a giant Christmas Stocking Raffle during which time we sell 15,000 tickets. The first prize of the stocking includes something for everyone, toys for the children, garden implements for Mum whilst Dad sits and relaxes with maybe a bottle of port or wine. The value of the stocking exceeds $A600.
You may wonder why all the Lions of the Club all look well fed.....thats because we are now champions at providing the labour at any function requiring a BBQ. Always good support and always someone willing to lay their life on the line, to ensure that the items cooked are of the highest quality. Well someone has to do it.
The Lions Club is just one of the many organizations worthy of all the support that the community can give......you never know when we may be able to assist you.
